Lewis Largent, who was born in West Covina, California, in 1965, started his radio career as a student at California State University, Long Beach. Lewis Largent graduated from Sarah Lawrence College with a BA in creative writing. He then obtained his MFA in 2015.

Lewis landed his first job as a DJ at the school’s radio station, KUCI, and immediately gained attention and established a reputation in the neighborhood music scene.
Largent was employed as a DJ at KROQ, the renowned Los Angeles radio station that was instrumental in promoting alternative and punk rock in the country, in 1986. Many of the up-and-coming alternative rock bands that Largent enthusiastically supported during his time at KROQ would go on to become well-known artists. Among the bands, he assisted in launching were Nirvana and Pearl Jam. His influence went far beyond the airwaves and into Soundgarden.
Largent also regularly appeared on MTV’s “120 Minutes,” a show that featured videos of alternative and indie rock, and he made use of his platform to support up-and-coming musical acts.
