Netflix rolls out paid password sharing feature to more countries.

On 9th February Thursday Netflix announced that 4 more countries namely Canada New Zealand Portugal and Spain will be rolling out paid password sharing passwords.

During 2020 due to a boom in the subscription even though the company had been aware that password sharing was a problem, they avoided addressing the issue because during that time the streaming was going on a huge scale and it was affecting that much revenue generation. This led to a huge downfall in its earning last year. And for the first time, the platform lost its subscribers in the long run of 10 years. Due to its loss hasting decided that it was an important time to take action to address this issue.

So, on December 2022, Netflix announced that it will be putting an end to its password-sharing feature also known as its crackdown on passwords.

According to Netflix’s password-sharing policy, it was said that up to people outside the house could be added to an account with an additional charge of household users who will have their profile personalised recommendation and their login and passwords.

Since more than a hundred million Netflix users share their passwords with different people the streaming giant has changed its mind about giving free love sharing.

According to the streaming giant Netflix’s sharing password is sharing love.

Four different subscription plans on Netflix

Before going to anything the plan with Netflix should be discussed. As suggested in the above-mentioned heading, there is a total of 4 different subscription plans. These are as follows: –

  1. Basic with ads with a charge of 6.99 US dollars per month.
  2. Basic with a charge of 9.99 US dollars per month.
  3. Standard with a charge of 15.49 US dollars per month.
  4. Premium with a charger of 19.99 US dollars per month.

Before the announcement of the ban on the password-sharing policy of Netflix people who had subscriptions, the standard was able to add one extra person who was not living in their house and in a premium subscription the person was able to add two extra members who did not live in their house whereas the other two cheaper plans the basic and the basic with ads did not allow any other extra members.

The increased cost of Netflix

Taking the US currency over here as an example we can say that before if a person used to pay 15.49 US dollars per month for a standard plan they did not have to pay an extra fee for the person who did not stay in their house but now as per the new rules 7.99 US dollars or roughly 6 US dollars are supposed to be paid. So, in total it might cause 21.49 US dollars per month if the US and Canada’s pricing are similar.

Now a person who has a premium has to pay a total of 31.99 US dollars per month, and then only two additional users outside the household could be added.

As per the report is account will be essentially locked to a maximum of three different locations, hence not allowing people to share their accounts.
